An oxygen concentrator is a device which concentrates the oxygen from a gas supply (typically ambient air) to supply an oxygen enriched gas mixture. Oxygen concentrators typically use pressure swing adsorption technology and are used very widely for oxygen provision in healthcare applications, especially where liquid or pressurised oxygen is too dangerous or inconvenient, such as in homes or in portable clinics.
Most of the current portable oxygen concentrator systems provide oxygen on a pulse (on-demand) delivery in order to maximise the purity of the oxygen. The system supplies a high concentration of oxygen and is used with a nasal cannula to channel oxygen from the concentrator to the patient. Portable oxygen concentrator (or POC) is a portable device used to provide oxygen therapy to patients at substantially higher oxygen concentrations than the levels of ambient air. It is very similar to a home oxygen concentrator, but is smaller in size and more mobile. The portable oxygen concentrator makes it easy for patients to travel freely; they are small enough to fit in a car.
Portable oxygen concentrators have been around for decades, but the older versions were bulky, unreliable, and were not permitted on airplanes. Since 2000, manufacturers have improved their reliability and they now produce anywhere between one and six litres per minute (LPM) of oxygen. The portable concentrators plug directly into a regular house outlet for charging at home or hotel, but they come with a power adapter that can usually be plugged into a vehicle DC adapter. They have the ability to operate from the battery power as well for either ambulatory use, or away from a power source, or on an airplane.
The Respironics EverFlo Oxygen Concentrator is a unique stationary concentrator that delivers the features homecare providers want and patients deserve. EverFlo reduces operating costs with a design that is:
- Lightweight only 31 lbs.
- 2-Year Warranty
- Smaller and sleeker
- Easy to store and transport
- Low maintenance
- Quiet
- Simpler for patients to use and maintain
The system delivers a great performance and demands so little in return. It's small, quiet and designed to be easier and less expensive to operate.
Another piece of equipment which is used to help people breathe a little easier is the nebuliser and in this field also Respironics is a name to which is respected. The Respironics Inspiration Nebuliser and the Respironics Micro Nebuliser are both very popular items with those who struggle to handle their asthma. You will find that a Respironics Nebuliser can be the difference between life and death in very severe cases.
