The first item I bought was an electric heated neck and back pad after I had been suffering from problems a while back. I soon found that the effects were addictive and soon realised that I was using the electric heating pad every day. After this I tried the electric foot warmer and massager which I also liked but did not use as much as the electric heated neck and back pad, probably because it was not my feet which hurt but my back!
There are pros and cons to using an electric heating blanket:
Pros
- Most electric blanket manufacturers have to adhere to certain safety standards applicable to that country
- Electric blankets can be safe (and not harmful) if it’s a good brand and you follow safety procedures and precautions
- Many blankets now have over-heat protection which senses abnormal temperature variations and switches the blanket off if it gets too hot
- Some electric blankets are waterproof electric blankets which can be useful if you want to use it on a bed with kids
- Electric blankets eliminate the need for layer upon layer of bed coverings, resulting in lighter bed coverings that some may find more comfortable than heavy comforters or quilt
- Most electric blankets feature adjustable heat, which allows you tailor yours to your comfort level. Some models also include dual controls, allowing couples to adjust each half as they wish.
- Using an electric blanket may allow you to turn down the heat at night to save energy and money.
Cons
- Not all countries have safety standards and some of the countries safety standards can be quite lax
- There have been reported incidents of fires being caused due to electric blankets
- They may not be suitable for use in beds where young children sleep due to overheating
- Electric blankets are tested for safety, but here's always the risk of an electrical short, particularly in old or used blankets. An electrical short poses a fire hazard.
- Electric blankets can't be safely used in households with pets because they may claw at the blanket and damage its internal wiring, causing a fire or electrical hazard.
Another essential electric item is the electrical lice comb which has two operating modes:
- Detection - Use on dry hair to check for lice. If the electrical lice comb encounters a louse, it will stop buzzing and you then change to elimination mode.
- Elimination – The comb makes a buzzing sound until it identifies and destroys a louse.
Advantages of an electrical lice comb
- Chemical free
- A cheap long term solution to controlling head lice
- Stops the lifecycle of head lice
- Can be used repeatedly by the whole family and suits any hair type
